Alex Shepherd Roofing & Building Services is a roofing firm based at 1 Deerstone Road, Nelson, BB9 9ND. We are the people who decide how the details you give us are handled, which makes us the data controller for them.

This website, and what happens to your details if you send us an enquiry through it. It does not cover other websites we link to, such as our Google listing, which have policies of their own.

When you fill in the enquiry form we collect your name, your phone number and whatever you tell us about the problem. An email address and your town or postcode are optional, and they only help us get back to you in the way that suits you.

We ask for nothing else. There is no account to create, we never ask for payment details on this website, and we do not ask for anything sensitive.

As with any website, your browser also sends technical information when you visit, such as your IP address and which browser you are using. Our host records that briefly to keep the site running and to block attacks. It is not used to work out who you are.

We use what you send us to answer your enquiry, to come and look at the roof, and to quote for the work. That is the only reason we hold it.

Where you have asked us to quote, we are taking steps at your request before entering into a contract. Where you have simply asked a question, our basis is our legitimate interest in replying to people who get in touch. Either way, you asked us first.

We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not send marketing, and we do not sell or share your details with anyone who wants to.

An enquiry passes through a couple of services on its way to us. They act on our instructions and are not free to use it for their own purposes.

Cloudflare

hosts the website and passes your enquiry on. It keeps short-lived records of requests to keep the site up and to block attacks.

Brevo

delivers the enquiry to us as an email. They handle the message in transit and do not use it for anything of their own. Data is handled in the EU.

We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site: which pages people arrive on, roughly where they came from, and which pages they leave from. It keeps that information for 14 months.

It sets cookies, so you are asked before it runs and nothing is measured unless you agree. Our cookie policy explains what is set and how to change your mind.

Enquiries stay in our email while we are dealing with them. If the work goes ahead, we keep the quote and the job record for as long as we may need it for our accounts and for any guarantee on the work.

If an enquiry comes to nothing, there is no reason for us to keep it indefinitely, and you are welcome to ask us to delete it sooner.

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, or ask us to stop using it. You can also ask for a copy of what you sent us.

If you are not happy with how we have handled something, you are entitled to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

If what we do with your details changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top tells you when it last did. Anything that needs your agreement will be asked for rather than assumed.
